ELAC SONAR is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract to supply hydroacoustic equipment by Fassmer Shipyard, working on behalf of BAAINBw (the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support). The contract, worth around €4m, will see the equipment fitted in two SVK Boote vessels for the German WTD 71 (Technical Centre for Ships and Naval Weapons, Maritime Technology and Research). Work will commence in February 2022 and be completed by Q4/2023.
ELAC SONAR, a subsidiary of Cohort plc, are specialists in advanced sonar systems and were selected by the domestic customer as part of a competitive tender for the hydroacoustic equipment and associated technical services. The SVK Boote vessels will be used for military operations such as protection during the salvage of torpedos and escorting of submarines during trials in shallow waters, as well as for the deployment of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV´s). The equipment includes ELAC’s Pinger Locating Sonar (PILOS 2.0), a passive sonar used to detect and track underwater noise and signals mainly generated by sonar systems or other acoustic sources. ELAC’s Underwater Communication System (UT 3000 2G) will provide analogue and digital communications for the vessels.
Bernd Szukay, Managing Director of ELAC SONAR said, “ELAC is very pleased to deliver its Pinger Locating Sonar and its Underwater Communication System to contribute to this prestigious program. Our state-of-the-art equipment will be an asset for the operators to perform their missions safely. We are proud of the trust placed in us from both parties which underlines our commitment to deliver outstanding solutions to the Bundeswehr.”
