On 19 September 2024, the OCCAR-EA Director, Joachim SUCKER also accompanied by Admiral Maurizio Cannarozzo, OCCAR-EA U212 NFS Programme Manager, visited ELAC SONAR, a member of the Cohort plc Group.
He was welcomed by Bernd Szukay, ELAC’s Managing Director.
The visit followed two intensive and fruitful meetings, held at ELAC SONAR premises and involving separately OCCAR NFS Programme Division and Italian Navy Representatives.
During the visit, the Managing Director illustrated the activities of the Cohort plc Group with a particular focus on the involvement of ELAC SONAR in the Italian Near Future Submarine project. In particular, Bernd Szukay updated Mr Sucker on the innovation and competitive benefits the customers will gain from the participation of a medium sized technology companies, like ELAC SONAR. In fact, ELAC will supply the innovative and performant Integrated Sonar Suite for the U212 Near Future Submarines (NFS), in the framework of the contract awarded to the Italian shipbuilding group FINCANTIERI and managed by OCCAR.
The Director appreciated the presentation and had the opportunity to see first-hand the current state of development and production for the NFS Programme, underlining the contribution of medium size industry in strategic and innovative shipbuilding programms.
